Music
Music education
The teaching of the elements of music occurs throughout the school including some basics in music theory, singing and simple musical instruments.
Instrumental Music
We offer students in Years 3 - 6 the opportunity to learn a musical instrument (strings & brass; woodwind/percussion). Students have an opportunity to attend music camps, excursions and performances throughout the year.
Choir
The school has a popularly supported Senior and Junior Choir for students in Years 2 - 6. The choirs regularly perform at school and community events throughout the year.
Health and Physical Education
The school has dedicated Health and Physical Education teachers to deliver the Australian Curriculum from Prep to Year 6.
Our Prep and Year 1 students also participate in a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), coordinated by a designated teacher, that targets gross motor skills.
Interschool Sport
We offer interschool sport for our Years 5-6 students in a number of different sports. The school offers training in a number of sports to participate in Gala Days, competing against students from other local school.
Some of our staff are District Coaches and Managers of sporting teams representing the school and the Region at District and State levels.
Languages - Chinese
Algester State School provides a languages program to students starting from Years 2 - 6. We aim to provide students with an authentic language and cultural learning experience.
Learning a second language is much more than learning simple greetings. We provide real life learning scenarios which enable students to build the capacity for intercultural understanding and the awareness of other cultures. Language learning benefits our young learners' personal, cognitive, academic, social and cultural development. It ultimately allows them to appreciate the world from other perspectives.
