Operation Christmas Child

3/08/2016
Operation Christmas Child:  The Student Council have kindly agreed to undertaking this fundraiser this year.  While Christmas seems a long way away, we need to start the project now in order for the boxes to be received in time for Christmas.  The project is about preparing shoe boxes with a variety gifts for Christmas for children in third world countries.  We will ask parents for the gifts in a series of requests based around the gift suggestions from the program, collect the gifts and then transport them to the Algester Anglican Church who have kindly agreed to pack the boxes for us.  The first request goes out in today’s eNewsletter.  We will arrange for a receptacle for each Year level and let the children know where they will be housed for local deposit by Wednesday.  The Chappie has agreed to collect the gifts from these boxes and get them ready to be transported to the ladies.  Here are the collection categories, we will do two a fortnight until the end of the term:
  • Something to Wear
  • Something to Love
  • Something Special
  • Something for School
  • Something to play with
  • Something or Personal Hygiene
We will also host a free dress day in Term 4 to help support the postage of the Boxes which is $9 each.  I believe we have a tremendously generous community here at Algester and this is beautiful way to share our community spirit with others less fortunate than ourselves this Christmas.  I endorse Operation Christmas Child to you and seek you support to promote it with your students.

I have also posted a number of resources online through our school website, QSchools App and the School Facebook site.
CALL FOR DONATIONS FOR OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD THIS FORTNIGHT:  Please send to school with your child new items as per the following two categories.  The items must be new and suit children between the ages of 2 and 14.
  • Something to Wear: t-shirt, polo shirt, shorts, shorts, skirt, cap, beanie, sandals, dress, hat, underwear, pants, scarf, mittens, tops, socks, shoes, hair ribbon, etc.
  • Something to Love: teddy bear, doll, soft toy, stuffed animal, etc.
If you can contribute to this wonderful cause I am confident you will bring much joy to children far less fortunate than the children at Algester in a third world country.  Please consider purchasing something extra for the cause in your shopping this fortnight.
